Fight for Fair, Equitable and Correct Property Taxes

Penny Farrar is committed to fair, equitable and correct property assessments for all. Its not only important that your assessment is correct but all assessments must be correct and equitable in order for your taxes to reflect the proper amount you should be paying. If this doesn’t happen you could easily be paying more than your fair share.

The two highest taxes we are required to pay are Property Taxes and Income Tax. We are all concerned about how much we pay in Income Tax and we need to be equally concerned about our Property Taxes.

Eliminate Wasteful Spending

Penny will eliminate wasteful spending. Currently the Property Appraiser’s Office is top heavy in management. Through attrition and re-organization Penny Farrar will create a more even balance between the management-to-employee ratio as well as the employee-to-parcel ratio thereby making the appraisal work more productive and more efficient.

(Property Appraiser’s 2004-05 Un-Amended Budget is $8.7 million yr.)

Will Accept Responsibility for Property Taxes

The current Property Appraiser has been in that elected office for 16 years and he still says that he’s not responsible for your property taxes. On his 2000 campaign website he stated, “The appraiser is not responsible for [property] taxes”. In his 2003 Trim Notice, in his message to you, he states, “As Property Appraiser, I have no control over your property taxes”.

Penny Farrar will take responsibility for the part of the property taxes that she will be responsible for as Property Appraiser, because she knows that the Property Appraiser’s assessment of your property determines the percentage of the overall tax burden that you are required to pay.
